Paediatric Neurologist

Dr Rebecca Leung is a paediatric neurologist and clinical researcher who cares for children, adolescents and young adults with a range of neurological conditions. Rebecca works across several health services as a clinical staff specialist and at the Princess Alexandra Hospital as a clinical researcher in the neuroimmunology clinical trial group. With her unique background in paediatric and adult neurology, she brings deep expertise across neurology, neuroimmunology, and complex paediatric care.

Rebecca completed her PhD in infectious disease at the University of Queensland before undertaking medical training at the University of Melbourne. She has since built a broad clinical portfolio spanning paediatric and adult neurology with a focus on neuroimmunology, and multiple sclerosis, in conjunction with a fellowship in adolescent medicine. Her research and clinical practice intersect in her commitment to improving care pathways for children and young people with neuromuscular and neuroimmunological conditions.

Rebecca is also a dedicated educator, contributing to both undergraduate medical teaching and postgraduate FRACP training through her role as an Honorary Lecturer with the University of Queensland. Her leadership roles include advancing after‑hours medical governance at the Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne and establishing key quality‑improvement initiatives within paediatric neurology services in Queensland.

In her clinical work, Rebecca is known for her calm, thoughtful approach and her ability to explain complex medical issues in a clear, down‑to‑earth way. She is committed to partnering with families, ensuring they feel informed, empowered, and supported throughout their child’s care.

Rebecca is currently treating children, adolescents, and young adults ages 0–24yrs.

Special interests: multiple sclerosis, immune medicated neurological disorders, headache, migraine and general neurology.

Start the process

To begin psychological therapy or an assessment

You do not need a referral to see a psychologist for therapy or assessment. However, Medicare rebates are available for those who have a Mental Health Care Plan. To obtain a Mental Health Care Plan, you will need to visit your GP or a Psychiatrist or a Paediatrician. Medicare rebates are not offered for assessments.

To book an appointment with a Paediatrician, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist or Paediatric Neurologist

For an appointment with one of our medical specialists, please see your General Practitioner (GP) or current medical specialist and discuss a referral to our service. A referral from a GP or medical specialist is required, and once this has been received, our team will be in contact with you.

To begin speech therapy or a language assessment

You do not need a referral to see a speech pathologist for an assessment or therapy. However, Medicare rebates may be available for those who have a Chronic Disease GP Management Plan or Team Care Arrangement. You will need to speak with your GP to determine if you are eligible for referral under these schemes. Medicare referrals are also available under a Complex Neurodevelopmental Disorder or other eligible disability (including Autism) scheme. Speak to your child’s GP, Paediatrician or Psychiatrist for a referral under this scheme.
