Clinical Psychologist

Dr Cynthia Turner provides a warm and welcoming environment for those seeking psychological therapy. She has clinical expertise in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, and associated conditions including tic disorders and Tourette Syndrome, trichotillomania (hair pulling), body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) and more.

Cynthia’s clinical experience is very broad, having worked with clients from a diverse range of backgrounds and life experiences. She recognises each individual is different, and she seeks to tailor a personal plan and provide evidence-based psychological therapy that will support positive change.

Cynthia has worked in private practice in Australia since 2011, while also holding a variety of teaching and research roles at the University of Queensland and the Australian Catholic University. From 2003 until 2011, she worked in London at the prestigious Maudsley Hospital, providing psychological therapy to children and adolescents as a Consultant Psychologist within the National and Specialist Childhood OCD service, and providing psychological therapy to adults within the Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma. She was actively involved in teaching and research through her role at Kings College London, University of London.

Cynthia completed a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree at the University of Queensland in 1994, a Master of Clinical Psychology (MClinPsych) at Griffith University in 1997 and a PhD at Griffith University in 2002.

She is a registered psychologist (clinical endorsement) with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society, the Australian Association of Cognitive and Behaviour Therapy (AACBT), and the British Psychological Society. Cynthia remains actively involved in teaching and research. She provides supervision to junior colleagues and postgraduate clinical psychology students.

Start the process

To begin psychological therapy or an assessment

You do not need a referral to see a psychologist for therapy or assessment. However, Medicare rebates are available for those who have a Mental Health Care Plan. To obtain a Mental Health Care Plan, you will need to visit your GP or a Psychiatrist or a Paediatrician. Medicare rebates are not offered for assessments.

To book an appointment with a Paediatrician, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist or Paediatric Neurologist

For an appointment with one of our medical specialists, please see your General Practitioner (GP) or current medical specialist and discuss a referral to our service. A referral from a GP or medical specialist is required, and once this has been received, our team will be in contact with you.

To begin speech therapy or a language assessment

You do not need a referral to see a speech pathologist for an assessment or therapy. However, Medicare rebates may be available for those who have a Chronic Disease GP Management Plan or Team Care Arrangement. You will need to speak with your GP to determine if you are eligible for referral under these schemes. Medicare referrals are also available under a Complex Neurodevelopmental Disorder or other eligible disability (including Autism) scheme. Speak to your child’s GP, Paediatrician or Psychiatrist for a referral under this scheme.
