Psychologist

Emma Gorman is a Psychologist experienced in providing therapy and support to children, adolescents and young adults. She particularly loves working with children and young people and feels privileged to support them in improving their mental health. Emma also enjoys working with young people living with trauma and psychosocial disadvantage. She uses a combination of evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to create a positive difference in the lives of her clients and their families.

Emma is passionate about offering assessment, early intervention and support to neurodiverse children and young people, helping children with developmental differences, providing one-on-one intervention in the clinic, and offering home, childcare and school visiting services when required.

Emma’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Psychological Science in 2015 and a Bachelor of Psychological Science with Honours in 2016, and a Master of Professional Psychology in 2021. She has worked in various health sectors throughout Queensland with clients from numerous backgrounds and age ranges.

Emma aims to exceed the expectations of the young people and families she works with and champions the power of laughter and optimism by striving to bring both into her sessions.

Emma has current availability with no waitlist for Autism, ADHD, Learning and Cognitive assessments.  Emma’s assessments are neurodiversity affirming, trauma informed, LGBTIQA+ safe, culturally sensitive, strengths focused, and child and family centred.

HOW TO

Start the process

To begin psychological therapy or an assessment

You do not need a referral to see a psychologist for therapy or assessment. However, Medicare rebates are available for those who have a Mental Health Care Plan. To obtain a Mental Health Care Plan, you will need to visit your GP or a Psychiatrist or a Paediatrician. Medicare rebates are not offered for assessments.

To book an appointment with a Paediatrician, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist or Paediatric Neurologist

For an appointment with one of our medical specialists, please see your General Practitioner (GP) or current medical specialist and discuss a referral to our service. A referral from a GP or medical specialist is required, and once this has been received, our team will be in contact with you.

To begin speech therapy or a language assessment

You do not need a referral to see a speech pathologist for an assessment or therapy. However, Medicare rebates may be available for those who have a Chronic Disease GP Management Plan or Team Care Arrangement. You will need to speak with your GP to determine if you are eligible for referral under these schemes. Medicare referrals are also available under a Complex Neurodevelopmental Disorder or other eligible disability (including Autism) scheme. Speak to your child’s GP, Paediatrician or Psychiatrist for a referral under this scheme.
